BIOGRAPHY

Born in 2010, Deni Kokhanovskii began his piano studies at the age of six. He currently studies at the Moscow Gnessin School of Music, class of Anna Arzamanova. Deni is a winner of several awards of reputable Russian and international music contests and performs at prestigious venues across Russia and Europe.

In 2006, Deni began his musical training in the Moscow's Gnessin Children School of Music, class of Tatiana Sukhanova. He made his orchestral debut as a soloist at the age of nine, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 8 in C. Major with the Gnessin School's Chamber Orchestra.

In 2010, Deni pursued his music studies with Anna Arzamanova at the Moscow Gnessin School of Music (College).

He has since played and won many national and international piano competitions.

In 2023, Deni won First Prize (Golden Nutcracker) at the XXIV Nutcracker International Television Contest for young musicians (Russia); First Prize and Special Prize for best performance of Sergei Rachmaninov's music at the XII K. Igumnov International Piano Competition (Russia); Second Prize and Special Prize at the 5th International Piano Competition Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli — Ettore Pozzoli (Italy); First Prize and a special prize Best International Pianist at the International Piano Competition for Young Pianists Kronberg (Germany). Earlier last year, Deni also won at the 6th H. Neuhaus Festival for young pianists, and became a laureate of the 5th V. Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition.

In recent months, Deni gave number of performances including Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor at the St. Petersburg State Capella and Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. In 2024 and 2023, Deni played at venues including the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Zaryadye Concert Hall and Moscow International House of Music.
CHRONOLOGY
On May 25th, Deni plays F. Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor at the XXVII International Festival Musical Olympus in the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg with the Capella's orchestra, conductor — Andrei Kolyasnikov.

In May, Deni gives a recital at Niko Gallery in Moscow, playing works by R. Schumann and S. Rachmaninov.

In April, Deni visits Sergei Rachmaninov's hometown Velikiy Novgorod, and performs at the XIII S. Rachmaninov International Competition for young pianists.

In March, Deni gives a special solo recital in musicologist Yaroslav Timofeev's Prelude to Sunday concert project, playing among other works J.S. Bach's the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I, Prelude No. 8 in E-Flat Minor, BWV 853 and W.A. Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 8 in a Minor, K. 310.

In February, Deni performs Alexander Rosenblatt's jazz piece Toccata Boogie at the XVIII January Nights children arts festival in Zaryadye concert hall in Moscow.

2024
In December, Deni wins First Prize (Golden Nutcracker) at the XXIV Nutcracker International Television Contest for young musicians. He plays A. Scriabin's 2 Poems, Op. 32 and Liebesleid by F. Kreisler/ S. Rachmaninov in the semi-finals, and D. Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 (I. Allegro) in F Major, Op. 102 with the Moscow State Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Ivan Stolbov in the final round at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall.

In October, Deni wins First Prize and Special Prize for the best performance of Sergei Rachmaninov's music at the XII K. Igumnov International Piano Competition in Lipetsk, Russia.

In September, Deni was awarded Second Prize and Special Prize for the best performance of a work by Ettore Pozzoli at the 5th International Piano Competition Tribute to Elsa Pozzoli — Ettore Pozzoli in Seregno, Italy.

In April, Deni wins First Prize and a special prize Best International Pianist at the International Piano Competition for young pianists in Kronberg, Germany, playing L.v. Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 10 No. 1 (I. Allegro molto e con brio), F. Chopin's Nocturne, Op. 32, No. 2 in A-Flat Major and F. Kreisler/ S. Rachmaninov's Liebesleid.

In March, Deni becomes a laureate of the 5th V. Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition, playing in the final round D. Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major, Op. 102 with the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Ivan Nikiforchin.

Earlier in March, Deni wins at the 6th H. Neuhaus Festival for young pianists.

In February, Deni becomes a laureate of the Etude Competition at the Moscow's Gnessin School of Music, playing F. Chopin's Étude, Op. 25, No. 1 in A-Flat Major and C. Czerny's piano works.

2023
In December, Deni was awarded a diploma at XXIII Nutcracker International Television Contest for young musicians, playing J.S. Bach's Toccata in E Minor, BWV 914 in the semi-finals.

At the first round, Deni performed S. Rachmaninov’s Morceaux de Salon, Op. 10: III. Barcarolle and C. Debussy's Gardens in the Rain. Estampes, L.100, No.3.
2022
Deni passes exams at the Moscow Gnessin Special School of Music (College), and pursues his piano studies as a student of Anna Arzamanova.

In January, Deni gives a virtual concert in Play It Forward program by Lang Lang International Music Foundation. He performs Beethoven's 10 Variations on "La Stessa, La Stessissima" from the Opera "Falstaff" by Salieri, Chopin's Waltz in D Major (Minute Waltz), Op. 64, No. 1, Debussy's Arabesque No. 1 in E Major and other pieces. Aged nine, Deni becomes Play It Forward's youngest participant.

2021
In December, Deni plays February (Carnival) from P. Tchaikovskiy's The Seasons at XVII International Festival Moscow meets Friends by Vladimir Spivakov Foundation.

During the pandemic, in July, Deni was awarded the First Diploma at the II National Online Contest Music Talents of Russia. The jury consisting of more than thirty music experts prized Deni's performance of Les Petits Moulins à Vent (The Little Windmills) by F. Couperin and W.A. Mozart's Rondo in D Major, K. 485. In December, Deni performs W.A. Mozart's Rondo at the competition awards ceremony in the Gnessin Academy of Music concert hall.

In April, Deni plays J.S. Bach's Invention No.4 in D Minor at Meeting Bach virtual concert produced by the Memorial Apartment-Museum of El. F. Gnessina.

In March, Deni collaborates with pianist, professor, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Anatoliy Ryabov during his masterclass. Under Ryabov's guidance, Deni improves his playing of W.A. Mozart's Rondo.

In February, Deni performs two pieces from C. Saint-Saëns's Le Carnaval des Animaux— Hémiones (Swift Animals) and Poules et coqs (Hens and Roosters) — in concert produced by the Gnessin Children School of Music, with the Gnessin String Orchestra, conductor — Merited Artist of the Russian Federation Yaroslav Lobov.

2020
In November 2019, Deni won the School's competition and gave his first-ever performance as a soloist with an orchestra. In the concert hall of the State Pushkin Museum, Moscow, Russia he played W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No.8. I part (I. Allegro aperto) in C. Major, K. 246 with the Gnessin School's Chamber Orchestra, conductor — Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, professor Anatoliy Mukhamedzhyan. The concert took place at the State Pushkin Museum, Moscow, Russia.

In April 2019, Deni played the first work of his own Pegtop at the concert-competition of young composers It's Spring Again… in the concert hall of Moscow's Schaporin Music School.

During 2019 – 2020, Deni appears at the annual open concert series Our Hopes held at Taneev Moscow Children School of Music. In 2019, he plays R. Schumann's Fantasy Dance.

Deni develops collaboration with the Memorial Museum of El. F. Gnessina, and appears in its concerts playing pieces by F. Mendelssohn, A. Khachaturian, M. Glinka and W.A. Mozart.

2019
Deni begins to attend composition class under Viktor Simonov.
2018
Deni enters Moscow's Gnessin Children School of Music, class of Tatiana Sukhanova. The same year, he performs on stage for the first time in his life. In December, Deni plays S. Prokofiev's Music for Children. Op. 65: X. March at the annual Gnessin Children School concert.

Deni also starts taking additional music classes with Alexandra Kurlaeva improving his music technique and solfeggio knowledge.

At the age of 7, Deni becomes a regular participant of the Memorial Apartment-Museum of Elena Fabianovna Gnessina concert series.
2017
Deni takes his first piano lessons at home with his first music teacher Hasmik Avetisyan.

Back then, Deni's most favorite thing is Lisz's Transcendental Etudes performed by Daniil Trifonov.
